Every year, around 11 million tons of plastic waste end up in the ocean, and if this trend continues, the number could rise to 29 million tons annually by 2040. Most of this waste comes from poor waste management on land—an alarming reality. With our initiative, everyone has a direct opportunity to help the ocean by collecting waste from the water.
Engaging local communities and tourists
When citizens and tourists participate in GreenKayak, something remarkable happens: action leads to change.
Every time a kayak is launched, waste is removed directly from the ocean. Each participant who witnesses the problem firsthand becomes an ambassador for cleaner seas. Every social media post inspires even more people to get involved. It’s a chain reaction sparked by a simple yet powerful act—picking up a paddle and making a difference.
Maintaining kayaks and equipment
The thousands of volunteers using our GreenKayaks put a lot of wear and tear on the kayaks and equipment. Your support membership helps fund the staff who maintain and repair them, ensuring they last as long as possible. When necessary, new kayaks and equipment are purchased.
Keeping GreenKayak free for all
As you know, GreenKayak is free to use—as long as participants collect trash while paddling. To keep this initiative free, we need funding from other sources. Part of your support membership helps us maintain a physical workspace and sustain the operations behind the GreenKayak movement.
